Morning Sing: May 11, 2020

This week starts me going through a set of music (13 pieces) from my grandfather’s collection. I’ve ordered it by decade, but not precisely chronologically. So, we’ll start in the 1920’s and move through to the 1980’s…seeing what happens as we go.

We have to begin with Singin’ in the Rain, one of the most iconic musical songs of all time. The scene from the movie with Gene Kelly dancing has all sorts of stories that link with it (he had a fever, it was completely spontaeous, etc.), but the one thing it didn’t have was him singing the verse. Luckily, my grandfather’s sheet music has the resolution for that! There are a couple other gems I’ll be pulling out in the coming days, as well.

Singin’ in the Rain

Lyric by Arthur Freed

Music by Nacio Herb Brown

(c) 1929 by Metro Goldwyn-Mayer Corp., assigned 1932 to Robbins Music Corp.
