Morning Sing: May 8, 2020

Good morning!

Continuing through a journey of my earliest musical influences…In the photo accompanying this, you can see my grandfather stamped his name on the front of the sheet music, Theodore Sprague Day, and the date he purchased the music (March 2, 1949). He was so organized!

My Sugar is So Refined

Lyrics by Sylvia Dee

Music by Sidney Lippman

(c) 1946 Capitol Songs, Inc.

In the video, I say that I grew up singing this song, and I thought that I’d heard The Manhattan Transfer perform this, but I can’t find a recording of them singing it to reference. I clearly mis-remembered. So, instead I’ll reference the original recording (as noted on the front of the sheet music): Featured by Johnny Mercer, with Paul Weston and Orchestra and the Pied Pipers
