“Rachel Velarde is an intuitive and versatile teacher who can benefit a musician working in any style. She uses technical approaches to confront psychological and emotional barriers that helped me push past my perceived limitations and get to know the power of my voice. Her teaching released my musical experience from my busy mind and allowed me to cultivate sound from a pure and nonjudgmental place. In our time together, I grew immensely as a singer and my overall musicianship became more connected and grounded in emotion and beauty.”

“...The growth in my voice and in my poise and stature, the quality and color change of my tone...It’s all baffling to me. 🎶
I don’t ever thank her enough, so because of the VISIBLE and AUDIBLE changes since 2015, I have to publicly thank Dr. Rachel Day Velarde for ... everything.
She is my first and only voice teacher I’ve ever had, and I honestly hope I never really have to take from anyone else. Even my progress from last year is exponential, let alone from FIVE years ago. ❤️
Thank you. Thank you for believing in me, for kicking my ass, for telling it to me how it is, and for always knowing exactly what to do and what to say to get me to perform like you know I can. 😉 “

“While I have worked towards being the music theater “triple threat,” I have spent countless hours and money on vocal lessons, yet it never seemed natural and results didn’t seem to “stick.”
Through my work with Rachel, I have discovered my “natural” voice—learning how to get out of my own way. I am learning appropriate effort and breath speed for the tone/sound/quality I am working on and learning how to let my body work for me when singing. The most valuable idea is that I don’t have different voices that I must manage (belt, head voice, etc.) and blend. I have one voice which spans multiple octaves and can achieve different qualities—adapted by emotion, intent, breath, and physical movement.
Singing may never be as “natural” for me as dance and acting, but it is no longer this “thing” that is never quite good enough.”

“My voice and relationship with singing has completely transformed under Rachel Velarde's instruction. I thought I knew how to sing after college studies and years of coaching, but Rachel's vast depth and insights opened up a whole world of intriguing and cathartic information. I have a much more grounded awareness of my body while performing, much more vocal endurance and genre flexibility, as well as a healthier outlook on technique in general that's been essential for managing a full-time performance career. I'm extremely pleased with the drastic changes I've seen in my voice from her guidance and support. Ultimately she's taught me that standing in my own humanity and authenticity is a profound tool towards effective performance and not an obstacle. I would recommend her to anyone who is seriously invested in singing and ongoing learning.”

“Rachel helped me discover my unique vocal identity. I came to her with preconceived ideas about what singing is and the type of singing I was "good at" - a box I created for myself without even fully realizing it. She helped me reframe long-held ideas and get out of my own way. Not only has the process freed up my technique physically, it has built my confidence. I know now that I have the tools to approach any number of musical styles.
Rachel consistently checks in with me on my individual goals; she is always very focused on helping me develop practical skills needed to be a marketable performer. I have learned to approach material in a way authentic to the piece's style and historical context AND in tune with the contemporary market and audience. This knowledge is immensely valuable to me as I navigate auditions in a new city!”

“I now record every practice session and listen back to it. This has helped me in so many ways. I also realized how much I use either guitar or piano as a crutch when trying to hit the right notes. I am more confident now with my voice.”

“I have been working with Rachel for over 10 years (with a break when I moved out of state for school), and there has not been a single vocal instructor I've found that could teach me how she has. I tried finding local people, but absolutely no one came close to her expertise, expectations of greatness, and pushing you to be your best. I lost my confidence while going through some awful stuff, and in doing so I lost myself. Rachel has been not only an amazing teacher, but an angel and a blessing in my life that has helped me heal slowly with the power and gift of voice. In as little as a few months back working with her, I have a confidence I never knew I had...and a voice that I never imagined could be mine. Thank you, Rachel. For everything.”

“Rachel is an amazing vocalist instructor! She has knowledge beyond what one would ever imagine for voice lessons. I went in thinking I was going to learn how to sing and boy did I! I also received instruction about how the entire body movement and stance is related to the voice with visuals and professional feedback. What valuable information she has taught me!!! Thank-you Rachel! 💓💓💓”
